People

Matter is built around people. Our human-centred approach is focused on designing structures that offer social value and benefit everyone involved, through stronger partnerships and better communication.

This starts with our team, who then apply this philosophy to work with clients, contractors, end users and communities. In other words, to ensure the wellbeing of all those affected by a building’s design, construction and use.

Culture of care

We care about the work we do and the changes it can mean for anyone who comes into contact with a project. From looking after our team’s physical and mental health to considering a structure’s impact on the local community, we nurture every aspect.

Close collaboration

Good design and therefore project success depends on forging strong working relationships at every stage. We invest time in understanding each client’s vision and influencing all parties to make the right decisions for the best outcome.

Safer standards

Our culture of care extends to applying rigorous safety standards on all projects. Construction is a complex process and, as a priority, we work to minimise risks as far as possible for both on-site contractors and local residents.

Community minded

By reinvesting profit made on commercial projects, our alternative business model enables us to offer a discounted rate to charities, community organisations and other good causes. This puts sustainable, ethical engineering design within reach of everyone.

Thinking local

As well as creating social value through the projects themselves, we seek to support communities by contracting local businesses. This means we can choose people who share (or are willing to adopt) our core values, and at the same time ensure a high level of quality control.

Socially responsible

We want to play our part in creating a fairer, more sustainable world by backing social enterprises. To show this commitment, we are a member of Social Enterprise UK, the world’s leading authority on social enterprise.

Trusted partner

Once clients have experienced the benefits of our approach on a project, they turn to us time and again. For example, we have worked with art organisation V22 on many projects over the years, including Silvertown Studios.

“Christina always goes over and above her job description, helping with all sorts of details, but also giving advice and constructive criticism on a wide variety of project elements. She can and does turn her attention to all sorts of projects and problems.

Christina is ethical, trustworthy, extremely bright, always up for a challenge, and a pleasure to work with.”
